Dr. Bill Tillman has been practicing optometry since 1986. Originally from Andalusia, he graduated from Andalusia High School and Lurleen B. Wallace State Junior College before continuing his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There, he earned two Bachelor of Science degrees and went on to receive his Doctorate of Optometry from UAB in 1986.
Clinical Experience & Professional Leadership
During his clinical training, Dr. Tillman gained valuable experience caring for patients at the Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega and at the Veterans Hospital in Birmingham. Over the years, he has built a reputation for thoughtful, medically focused care, with a special interest in managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, and other chronic eye conditions.
Dr. Tillman has also been deeply involved in advancing the profession of optometry. He served as President of the Alabama Optometric Association (2007–2008) and was honored as Alabama Optometrist of the Year in 2004. He has served on the Association’s Board of Directors and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
Through his leadership, he has helped shape both the care delivered in his practice and the broader standard of eye care across the state.

As the founder of Tillman Family Eye Care, Dr. Tillman has spent nearly four decades building a practice centered on trust, compassion, and long-term relationships. His approach focuses on taking the time to understand each patient’s needs, clearly explaining their eye health, and guiding them through care with confidence and reassurance.
Today, he continues that mission alongside his daughter, Dr. Meredith Tillman Flatt, providing comprehensive eye care that spans routine vision needs, medical management, and access to advanced treatment options.
Community & Personal Life
Dr. Tillman has remained deeply connected to the Andalusia community throughout his career. He is an active member of the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce and a founder and board member of Southern Independent Bank.
He and his wife, Sherry, have made Andalusia their home, where they raised their three children. They now enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. Outside the office, Dr. Tillman enjoys water sports, hunting, and reading.
